The term ostomy is used to describe surgery performed to create an opening (stoma) from an area inside the body to the outside. Ostomy is used to treat certain diseases of the digestive or urinary systems. The procedure can be permanent in the case when an organ must be removed. If the small intestine, colon, rectum, or bladder simply needs time to heal, the ostomy is used as a temporary procedure.
Our ostomy supplies deal with the management of waste leaving the body after the surgery has been performed. There are many different types of ostomy.
An Ileostomy involves the bottom of the small intestine (ileum) being attached to the stoma. A Colostomy is where the colon is attached to the stoma. Urostomy involves the tubes that carry urine to the bladder being attached to the stoma, bypassing the bladder.
